1971 Second Grade

Classes Candids

This was the Webmaster's first year at St. Martin's, and he was horrified to learn that all of the kids knew how to write in cursive, which was not taught in the Washington state public schools by that time.

A lot of the class consisted of learning phonemes via flashcards- like
which we all remember can sound like:
Oh, Ew, Uff, Off, Aw, Ow

Of course, the greatest part of second grade were the relay races after lunch, which were absolutely dominated by Mrs. Shepherd's class.  That was easy, though, with speed-demons like Ron Shemwell and Mary Kay Hamilton in the mix.
