1977 - Eighth Grade

Classes Sports Clubs/Assns., etc. Candids

Well, we now ruled an entire wing of the southern buildings.  The euphoria was lost in the three hours a day in Mrs. Beckman's English classes, where we learned the only good clause was Santa Clause.  But the euphoria was more than regained in Mr. McMillan's classroom.  It was there that Steve Young showed us, when Mr. McMillan had left temporarily, that punching sheetrock (between the studs) created holes in the classroom walls.  Many other young lads wanted to see if they were equally adept, but punishment for such vandalism was avoided by the Webmasters idea of moving the maps of the world to cover the holes.  Mr. McMillan did not notice the askew nature of the maps upon his return.

Surgical tubing, already known to help throw objects great distances when attached to a funnel ("funnelator"), was found to have another use when, with L.R. keeping a protective eye on Mr. McMillan's attention, the Webmaster decided to see how long it would take to siphon the water from the fish tank out of a window.

"Hotbox" between the building wings dominated our free time, and anyone who was in Mrs. Bolles' Algebra I class certainly still remembers the first weeks of AXIOMS.  And there was the week of Wolfcreek, which I have yet to succeed in forgetting completely.

Poor Mrs. Chastant, who ended her day with a group of us in a physical science class in 8th-period, often had to call the maintenance staff as the overhead air-conditioning units kept dripping water on the floor.  The thought that a few of her students had squirt guns never crossed her mind.

Oddly enough, the Middle School Sweethearts section of the St. Martin's Favorites categories was discontinued in this year.
